Simonne Mitchelson Shitty Wine Memes Wine Geek of the Week

Tell us a bit about yourself. Why are you a wine geek?

I love knowing that I will never know everything. The universe, the ocean, wine. The knowledge is never ending from history and culture, to new production methods and catch phrases.

.

Extraterrestrials just landed on earth. What wine do you pour them?

White Burgundy. Start your education off properly, foreign homies.

.

What's your favorite scent you have ever smelled in a wine?

Poop! I’m a masochist who likes a bit of reduction.

.
Any favorite music or podcasts you like to listen to while you drink wine?

Um. How much time do you have?

I’ll keep it brief.

A podcast about music! Song Exploder is genius.

Thundercat and gamay is a mood.

.
If you could visit any wine region in the world right now what would it be any why?

Honey, literally anywhere. But in a normal year, I find Austrian wines really exciting so Kamptal or Wachau.

.
What do you think is the most exciting thing going in the world of wine right now?

I think millennials are changing everything. Buying patterns, winemaking styles, INCLUSION, making wine for everyone and not elitist

.

What would you like to see in the future of wine?

I would honestly just like to see more of what’s already happening. A focus on sustainability, nuance, pushing the boundaries which is Californian tradition! This is just millennials take on it.

.
What advice would you give yourself looking back to when you first started working in the wine industry?

You don’t have to have these really hard opinions to make it sound like you know what you’re talking about. Tasmania is dope but so is Barossa so chill the fuck out.

.

Who are some people that inspire you in the world of wine?

If we’re talking production? Justin Trabue. She bursts with enthusiasm every time she walks into the cellar. Justin really reinvigorated my passion for wine and because of that fervor, I had the renewed energy to actually pursue my label which will launch 2022.

If we’re talking viticulture, Brenae Royal. I could listen to Brenae talk about grass growing. This woman is an incredible force. We would touch base on social media now and then, which evolved into a friendship that I greatly value. She is absolutely brilliant and takes no shit. This woman has taught me so much already.

If we’re talking wine writing, who writes more stylishly, eloquently, and more beautifully than Alisha Sommer and Lucy Tea Marie?

Imane Hanine when it comes to just passion for this industry. The woman is a poet and one of the most genuinely curious humans I’ve had the pleasure of encountering. Fucking hell I love these women.

.
